6 Steps to Selling a Trailer in Georgia

Filling out the trailer bill of sale is a crucially important part of selling a trailer in Georgia. However, to successfully sell it, you should take a few more steps that we will describe below.

Step 1

It might sound strange, but the first step in selling a trailer is cleaning and fixing it. Make your trailer look like it just went out from the factory; the same goes for the mechanisms. Because the less work a new buyer will have to do, the higher their chances of buying your trailer. The price can also go up if the trailer is in good shape.

Step 2

During the second step, you have to prepare all the necessary documents that you will have to give to the buyer alongside the trailer.

The most important documents are the following:

  • title of ownership
  • manual
  • registration documents

Also, do not forget to give the buyer all the relevant information about the trailer that is not on the documents.

Step 3

While making the third step, you might include some attachments that you will no longer need to the deal. For example, you can add to the proposal some spare wheels or other spare parts of the trailer and some maintenance instruments.

Step 4

The fourth step is entirely about advertising: you have to advertise your sales proposal by any means. For example, you can buy ads on specific websites or local newspapers. Also, do not forget about the possibility of making posts on social media.

Step 5

The fifth step of selling a trailer will start when you find a potential buyer. During this step, you have to try to negotiate the price of the trailer in your favor. At the start of the negotiation, you can put the price higher than you expect the buyer to agree on. Then, while negotiating, you can scale it down to the amount you wanted from the start. In this case, the buyer will think that negotiations went in their favor.

Step 6

The sixth and final step of selling a trailer is writing the trailer bill of sale form.

When you and the buyer finally agree upon the price and all other relevant parts of the deal, you will just have to write down the bill for the next piece of information.

  • Date of sale
  • Buyer’s personal information
  • Seller’s personal information
  • The price of the trailer
  • Relevant information about the trailer (model, registration, year of manufacture)
  • Signatures of both parties

It is also important to mention that the new owner of the trailer will have to register the deed at the Georgia Department of Revenue, but there is no need to worry; it is an easy task.
